What I remember from the first time I saw a harry potter book was the pretty cover. The artwork was detailed, the colours and had a well-balanced combination between dull mystical colours as well as warm and vivid ones giving that magic touch. On the top of that, it was decorated with shiny, silvery details. The logo, the entire summation text on the back side as well as some simple illustrations which made my young fantasy-loving heart skip a beat as I caught a first glimpse on it after ripping the paper of the Christmas present off.

Later on, it came to my knowledge that the Swedish translations had its own cover artist. Since we’re a quite modest land, I could imagine how big potential and how awesome some of the foreign covers could be.

I’ll try to describe the disillusion my boyfriend and I just experienced regarding this subject this night.

DENMARK

I’m not sure wether the artist never left that childish impression you get when you find “word art” for the first time, or is a big fan of Indiana Jones.

Regarding the actual picture (which artist I presume is a completely different one then the one making the border) I think he’s thinking something like this “Oh, nevermind the school uniform. Being dressed as a wizard is quite shitty. I’ll put on Dudelys old smelly jeans instead. Better take of the wizard hat as well. I’ll put it next to me, no one will notice.”

A misjudgement of the infection rate on Hogwarts compared to London also gave him jaundice.

Note the unrelated “broken wall” border placed in another border.

FINLAND

Problem, Harry?

UK/ADULT VERSION

“Harry Potter and the prisoner of Auschwitz”

GERMANY

This “one raised eybrow”-face isn’t uncommon at posters and covers. However, I’m not really sure how well it’s merged with the background. While Hermione apparently is enjoying herself behind one of the giant chess pieces, which isn’t all to related or descriptive to the main story, Harry stands sceptical towards the whole idea of finding the servant of Voldemort.

That smirk always works.

Harry quit Hogwarts and bleached his hair to become a model for glasses. In a desert.

Harry get the fuck out of the water.

Harry was quite sceptical to Voldemorts flying snake-trick

ITALY

I’m not quite sure I can recall this scene from any of the books.

FRANCE

oh god the swedish covers are the BEST end of story.
